I chose giraffes as my essay topic because they are a very unique species There is no other animal on this earth that is comparable to a giraffe Because of their beauty they have been hunted for many decades and are currently endangered Giraffes are gentle creatures these animals usually keep to themselves and do not intentionally harm other animals or nature Giraffes have been influential in the fashion world as well as the political world Their unique hides and elegant stature inspired many fashion designers worldwide At one point in time giraffes were even sent as diplomatic gifts to governments of various countries They are a big part of our worlds history Giraffes have roamed all over Africa for thousands of years Ancient people drew and painted pictures of giraffes on cave walls Ancient African cultures used to make up stories about its origins they believed that giraffes had spiritual powers Ancient Egyptians mistakenly believed that the giraffe was a crossbreed between camels and leopards because of the similarities of the size and body shape as well as the patterns on their skin This assumption though it was false continued through history and more specifically through science The scientific name for a giraffe is Giraffe Camelopardalis The giraffe is the tallest animal on earth Male giraffes are able to grow up to 18 feet tall the average height is 17 feet while female giraffes average at around 14 feet They get most of their height from their extremely long legs 6 feet and because of the length of their legs giraffes can run up to 55km an hour Even while walking each step covers around 15 feet Giraffes also have large sloping backs 5 feet and long tails 3 feet These animals have really good vision and hearing they can also make a variety of
