Abner Doubleday in Cooperstown New York in 1839 was known as the game maker of baseball but this was said to be a myth After Doubleday died he left many letters and such but none of them claiming he invented baseball Even though Doubleday was never admitted into the Baseball Hall of Fame his portrait still lies up there for many years Mills Commission claimed that Doubleday had invented the word baseball made the diamond told the position of the pitcher and wrote the rules in Cooperstown New York in 1839 But by the time 1839 Doubleday was in West Point not in Cooperstown and was said not to have visited Cooperstown at all A few blocks from the Hall of Fame was a ballpark named Doubleday fieldEthan Allens real name was Ethan Nathan Allen he played as an outfielder was born January 1 1904 and died in September 15 1993 Allen played for 5 teams New York Giants St Louis Cardinals Philadelphia Phillies Chicago Cubs and St Louis Browns He was also a Major League Baseball player from 1926-1938 Allen played 1123 games and had 47 homeruns Even after his retirement he was still well known as a player and inventor of the board game All Star Baseball
