2977 That is the number of people that died on the September 11 2001 terrorist attacks Lives of citizens from over ninety countries were claimed during this heinous acts of terror committed by a terrorist group known as Al- Qaeda Al Qaeda is a militant Islamic group that was formed during the late 1980s by Osama Bin Laden The group aims to enact a global jihadist movement and it has been labeled as a terrorist organization by the United Nations Security Council NATO the European Union as well as many individual countriesThis group is not only responsible for the September 11 terrorist attacks but also the 1988 US embassy bombings as well as the 2002 Bali bombings which have collectively claimed the lives of thousands of individuals Terrorism is unfortunately a problem that has shown to persist quiet frequently in the international community Many governments have tried to combat the issue but have been stuck on what the issue truly is The state department issued a statement claiming that No one definition of terrorism has gained universal acceptance Terrorism has been broadly regarded as violence on noncombatant targets intention of spreading fear and the act of promoting political aims The issue with the vague definition is the fact that it leaves the question of what can be categorized as terrorism Is it limited to physical violence or does it also cover the act of simply instilling fear within society Up until this point the true definition of what terrorism is has not been addressed or agreed upon among the international community but rather individual organizations have taken the liberty of creating their own definitions The problem that this has created is that when there isnt harmony regarding what the issue is then finding a solution to the problem is near impossible I believe the first step in trying to solve the problem that is terrorism is that the international community should come up with a
