Adolescence is a time for shaking off responsibility Discuss with reference to the novel other class materials and own information Adolescence is a time of growth and time to learn and make mistakes It is also a time where responsibility or lack of can be questioned There are many heated discussions over whether adolescence is really a time to be equipping yourself for the responsibilities youll later have to face in life or rather if it is a time when responsibility should not even be thought of There are many reasons why adolescents can be regarded to take on responsibility as it is a time of maturing and preparing for the world out there Alternatively there are also many reasons why adolescents is a time for shaking off responsibility as there are many pressures faced while an adolescent many fads in life still to go through and the fact that adolescents is a time that is meant to be for fun In the novel The Pigman Paul Zindel explores the idea that adolescents is a time for having fun being care free and not taking much responsibility at all through a character John John in his somophore years drinks alcohol smokes and plays more than simple pranks at school Not only this but when he meets the Pigman he acts irresponsibly by taking advantage of the privileges Mr Pignati offers such as allowing him to spend much money on him and not feeling much guilt at all His pranks include setting off twenty-three bombs and organising the supercolossal fruit rolls p8 John basically is interested in having a fun time not really thinking any further ahead than that This is shown when he initiates a large social gathering at Mr Pignatis house while he is still in hospital which shows his lack of consideration However Zindel also sees the other side of the coin through the character Lorraine who although
