The recession of values in American families is tearing the nation apart and causing the newer generations of people to be worse than the next It affects the country as a whole For example if trust declines then so does the economy This issue expands to greater depths than just the average American home it contributes to almost all aspects of American lifeChildren dont respect their parents these days anymore A generalized statement but statistically true There are many known factors as to why American children are increasing becoming more disrespectful In Why dont kids respect their parents more Cowen states several logical reasons as to the declination of respect one of which is The American divorce rate is relatively high I have pondered this statement myself and I could see it being a legitimate reason for this abatement of respect It was much tougher for me to conjure up how truthful and logical this statement actually appears to be because my parents are not divorced So I had used a few of my friends as references to my research Single-parent homes generally produce unfortunate statistics for declining values Children cant have respect for someone who had left their family which also implements the fall of trust Growing up as a kid seeing my parents together has been the best thing for me Seeing the rest of my friends with single-parent homes made me realize how fortunate I am If my parents could trust each other for all this time then I could trust easier myself I have more respect for my parents staying together especially staying together for me even though theyre still in love Most parents divorce while they have a child to take care of This makes the child lose respect for the parents for not thinking about them and the emotional damage it could cause For some parents their childs mental and emotional state is irrelevant to the divorce but thats
