The sinking of the Lusitania in 1915 is known as one of the most memorable events in the United States history This was the act that made America go into World War I It took only eighteen minutes for the Lusitania to disappear beneath the oceans surface This tragedy left Americans with the question of who did it All the attention was centered in the Germans Henry Watterson a United States journalist who founded the Louisville Courier-Journal wrote a journal called Germanys Sinking of the Lusitania was an Atrocity In this journal he blames Germany for the sinking of a British ship and the lives of Americans sailors who were on that ship His journal spawned international interest and a number of responses from fellow journalist and historians worldwide Americans generally agree with Watterson insistence on blaming Germany for the sinking of the Lusitania However some publications mainly from German-Americans strongly disagree with the condemnation of Germany They criticize the United States for letting American sailors aboard a ship of war They insist that this incident should be blame it on Great Britain and the shipping company for letting passengers go on a ship of warring nations and they also argue that United States Government is also culpable of the event because they fail to prevent American sailors to not pass through declared war zones Henry Watterson for example describes the event as a purposely act of violence In his journal Germanys Sinking of the Lusitania was an Atrocity he describes the Britain ship as a great ocean liner and he says that the ship was passing peacefully to and from an American port To him the Lusitania was carrying a harmless ships company of non-combatants man women and children In Watterson point of view the people on the ship were not harmful at all He tells the event in a
