Convocation is a ceremonial welcome to all incoming students celebrating the start of the academic year At Lyndon State College this ceremony occurred on Thursday August 29th All of the students met around the fountain pond with their peer-leader groups to get ready to file into the Twilight Theater As the students filed in they were greeted by the entire faculty participating in this event They were all wearing robes of different colors that looked very hot and heavy and hats that reminded me of graduation Once all of the students were seated the faculty followed into the auditorium and onto the stage The ceremony then began with a silly question-what side is the tassel supposed to be on After a moment of figuring out what side it was supposed to be on left by the way - a band played their own rendition of America the Beautiful Once they had finished we were told to be seatedThe ceremony had different speakers who talked about community doing your best in college and what you are here for The first speaker gave a general welcome to the college She talked about how exciting it was to have all of us here and how great the year would be Next was President Joe Bertolino he talked about where were from and how many students were in the class There are 531 students in the freshman class which is the third largest incoming class for Lyndon After President Joe talked about how many students came from which state he handed the stand back to the first speaker The first speaker then introduced Kali a student at Lyndon State who talked about doing well in college She told us three things to think about get involved learn and study Once she finished her speech the next speaker talked about social norms
