Bridget's feedback:
"This essay has a good balance of detail and broader claims to help the reader understand the historical context, impact, and scale of these laws. I recommend some work with the organization and presentation to ensure clarity of purpose and approach throughout the entire paper. For example, the first page suggests a focus on a particular state, but the second half of the paper expands beyond Alabama, which is not mentioned again in the conclusion. I suggest redesigning your introductory paragraph to clarify the paper's scope for the reader. Similarly, consider the order of the body paragraphs: the first is at the state level to give examples, the second zooms out to the federal level for a broader historical discussion, and then the third narrows back down to the individual to show impact. Is this the most efficient flow for your reader? Take into account both the paper's purpose and the reader's experience in following the information.
As a final note, I had trouble understanding the relevance of Papa Delaney's quotation to the discussion and topic. Make sure to directly contextualize and analyze the text of the quotation so the reader can follow its function as evidence, as well as to show control of the source. A clear in-text citation or signal phrase will also achieve this."
