The book Aint No Makin it is a book about a sociological study by Jay Macleod on two different groups of young men The first group that you read about are called the Hallway Hangers This group is made up mostly of white kids and a couple black kids The other group is named the Brothers The Brothers are made up of mostly blacks and one white guy The Hallway Hangers did drugs constantly as well as drinking to the point of being drunk They always had the attitude of you have to be rebellious A lot of the group sold drugs to get easy money The Hallway Hangers often had each others backs and definitely looked out for each other Even though these guys had two black members in their group they were still racist These individuals had a strong belief that education would not get them anywhere in life on the social class scale The Brothers on the other hand believed in the American Dream That they could rise above what they were and live a life with having a wife big house nice car nice job and children They were not interested in drugs at all Instead they were interested in sports being athletic and of course girls Usually when The Brothers were faced with racism they would rather walk away from the situation rather than fight it There was not much racism in this group They wanted to focus on subjects that actually mattered to them more than worrying about discriminationNot a very nice family situation for the Hallway Hangers The majority of the group grew up without male figures in their lives Either their dads or brothers walked out or even went to jail or passed away To top that situation off most of the partys parents were usually high-school dropouts The Brothers compared to the Hallway Hangers was a huge difference The Brothers had more male figures present in
