In the story Ambush by Tim OBrien a man goes to war and one morning is put to protect the house they slept in while everyone else was asleep He saw a man approaching him and he thought that was the enemy so he killed him After he had retired from the war his daughter asked him if he had ever killed a man he then lied to her and said he didnt because he didnt want his daughter to think he was a bad man or that its okay to kill someone The narrator is currently still trying to get over the fact that he killed a man In Ambush Tim OBrien uses descryptive language and imagery to help the reader see how every decision a person makes has an effect on the future by how the narrator felt after he killed the man in war Even today the narrator feels guilty for killing the man in the Vietnam War Because he killed the man his guilt is still there When the narrator thinks about the man he killed he gets bad memories brought back to him He is currently trying to figure things out Even now I havent finished sorting things out to myself OBrien 2 That quote shows that OBrien really does still feel bad for killing the man at war But he did it mostly to protect himself This all is important to the narrator because usually men who go to war dont mind killing someone because they forget about it within a week but OBrien felt bad and still does for killing that manJust thinking about the man brings back bad memories to the narrator When he killed the man it had an effect on him months and years later He shows this by saying When Im reading a newspaper or just sitting alone in a room Ill look up and see the young man coming out the morning fog
