Imagine being told by your state that you couldnt marry the person you loved This is an issue that gay couples have to face in the US Ask around and nearly everyone will say that theyre in favor of equal rights for homosexuals Theyll all say yes gays should have the same rights in housing jobs public accommodations and should have equal access to government benefits equal protection of the law et cetera Get to the issue of gay marriage however and thats where the issue of equality stops Nearly three out of four people in the US oppose gay marriage which is nearly proportional to the people who support gay rights Its about time society supports real family values no matter what the family looks like Everyone has the right to be happy Life liberty and the pursuit of happiness are our natural rights guaranteed to us in the Constitution Who are we to prevent someone from being happy Just because they are of a different sexual orientation it does not mean that they dont feel the same emotions we do In all other respects they are exactly the same Why treat them like theyre different and deserve any less than we do They have the right to marry whomever they choose and to raise a family they are no less human then the rest of us The opposition to gay marriages ultimately comes from homophobia in American culture borne out of religious prejudice While many do not realize the degree of this problem it is a very real part of a gay persons life just like racism is a very real part of some of our lives I can go on and on and show how the arguments against gay marriage dont hold up Many of the reasons put forth for opposing it is based on the assumption that gays have a choice in who they feel attracted to but
