Esperanza Rising was written by Pam Munoz Ryan It has 262 pages It is a fiction book Esperanza lived on a ranch had the perfect family had the perfect dresses and even had servants She always believed that everything would the same Mama and Papa would never leave her side and that she would always live in Aguascalientes Mexico Until one day when Papa took a tripeverything changedHe was running late and Esperanza and Mama were getting worried Hortensia the servant whom had become like a best friend and Abuelita who was Esperanzas grandmother tried to calm them She was turning thirteen the next day and wanted Papa to be there Papas selfish and rude stepbrothers came with no sign of Papa Then Mama saw the light of a lantern through the window It was Alfonso and Miguel the servant Hortensias Husband and son and Papas best friends They reported terrible news that Papa had died by bandits near the fence he was mending Almost everyone came to the three-day funeral for him They brought tons of food and flowers Tio Luis one of Papas stepbrothers came and asked Mama to consider marrying him since Papa died So she said no of course He is very powerful and could make the rest of their lives very uneasyAfter all of this Miguel went outside with Esperanza and announced that his family may be moving to Califonia soon It is Esperanzas birthday but it is no fun at all Every year since Esperanza was a baby Papa gave her a special doll This year it was one that Papa had bought before he died It was a very pretty porcelain doll with a pink dress When Esperanza went to sleep that night she was having a horrible nightmare She awoke to her Mamas voice saying Esperanza wake up the house is on fire Esperanza grabbed the doll and ran outside Everyone was okay but Abuelita hurt
