Harry Potter the book series that made reading cool again gets the Hollywood treatment a second time Chamber of Secrets makes good on the promises made in the earlier film Since the film opened with a phenomenal 877 million take at the North American Box Office most likely everyone who wanted to see the film did For those of you fans who didnt rush out the first weekend youd probably like to know how closely it follows the book Well I have a confession to make I have not read the Harry Potter books I apologize It is on my to do list Dont worry I asked my sister who has read each book several times about the accuracy of the film She said although certain parts and details of the film were removed that overall it followed the book fairly close The plot for those like me who havent read the book involves around the mysterious Chamber of Secrets being opened and a monster being unleashed that is paralyzing students Of course Harry and his best pals Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger have to take upon themselves to solve the mystery The story and tone of the film are decidedly darker than Sorcerers Stone and theres an almost constant forbidding feeling throughout the film This feeling builds until tension snaps and the climatic finale of the film begins which is at times both genuinely frightening and thrilling Of course having not read the books does have its up side It allows me to comment on the film on its merits alone Everything about this film is an improvement over the last film Lets face it the first film was far perfect Thats not to say it didnt have it merits and that on the whole it wasnt enjoyable film But this time around director Chris Columbus seems more confident The best qualities from The Sorcerers Stone are still here and
