In my opinion I feel that the mother Laura has more time for her work than for her child The Method I chose to use is the PMIS method You can see at the beginning of the movie Laura loses her six-year old daughter Susie at the beach Laura is a widow in her thirtys She came from a small town to precede her acting career In the movie imitation of life Laura in a inspiring actress She has a young daughter Susie Laura barely has time for her daughter because she is trying to make a life of acting You can see she loves her daughter and shows concern at the beginning of the movie her daughter is lost at the beach She asks a complete stranger Steve to help her find her daughter Susie He does find her I would be so afraid to ask a complete stranger because of all the crimes I know this took place back in the 1930s and the 1940s so it was different back then Laura is so caught up in the acting career she so desires that she neglects her daughter Also she could have love but gives that up as well The man that found Susie is Steve Laura wants to pursue this career that she meets Annie Johnson a black woman on the beach She sees her with her daughter Sarah Jane but thinks she is her made because Sarah is light skinned Laura who is down on her luck invites Annie to move in with her and her daughter She starts to help take care of Susie I feel Annie is being more of a mother to Lauras daughter than she is at this point Laura does get a play part in a play but it takes time Laura gets a boost by a agent named Allen Loomis
