Kate Chopin was a woman ahead of her time She wrote poems and short stories that expressed her anger disappointments and feelings toward life The death of her loved ones making her the only child and then the death of her husband making her the sole provider for her children brought her to become an artistic writer In The Story of an Hour Chopin expresses the thought of an independent woman looking forward to life on her own regaining a sense of individualism and culture Kate Chopins writing represented a taboo in her time where she expresses the views of most women in her time who were not courageous enough to express themselves with their thoughts and opened a window for a discussion for independency Chopins style of writing is unique in comparing to writers on her time Writers on her time seemed more complex and their writing requires lots of hidden meanings and an open mind to what will happen next Poems in her time seem complex and hard to define as well but Chopins style of writing gives a clear and to the point meaning however her writing can also put the mind to work to where the reader fills in the blanks in conversations or thoughts When describing the protagonist of The Story of an Hour Chopin describes her as Mrs Mallard making it obvious as though she is married and affiliated with a heart trouble making her reader prepared to what will happen at the end of the story Chopin 353 The use of foreshadowing throughout the story gives hints to Mrs Mallards desires as a single woman she did not hear the story as many woman new spring life she was young free free free all in which shows her desire to live life alone and for herself making it an irony for she was condemned to death from the start of the short story heart trouble and great care
