The stupidity of the commoners works to Marc Antonys advantage as Antony attempts to lead the common citizens into his way of thinking by using many clever ways The intent of Antonys plan is to convince the common people that Cassius Brutus and Casca were wrong to kill Caesar and they were just jealous Just a few examples of his cunning schemes include using sarcasm and fake sympathy appealing to the Plebeians greed and taking sentimental and emotional approaches He is also able to weave reverse psychology into almost each of these ideas One way Antonoy had of turning the crowd to his side was appealing to what almost every person wants money As soon as Antony mentions the will in which Caesar had supposedly left each individual man 75 silver coins one man in the crowd yells out Most noble Caesar we shall avenge his death Would he have felt the same way if not for the will which in all probability is most likely some creation of Antonys mind Also after mentioning the will Antony tries to act like he shouldnt have told them by saying Have patience gentle friends I must not read it It is not proper that you should know how much Caesar lovd you Antony says that with the purpose of making the commons want to hear the will even more which is reverse psychology By bringing up this seemingly insignificant object Antony had once again successfully turned the mindset of many commoners Another manipulative way Antony had of swaying the crowd was by taking a sentimental approach One especially good example of this is when he says O judgement thou art fled to brutish beasts and men have lost their reason Bear with me my heart is in the coffin there with Caesar and I must pause till it come back to me He then turns around and begins to fake a cry making the plebeians feel sorry
