All Souls a memoir by Michael Patrick MacDonald describes the hardships faced throughout South Boston The people in South Boston failed to realize what was really going on around them they didnt realize that Whitey Bulgers negative influence was actually ruining their society nor did they realize that blaming others for their calamities wasnt going to get them any further than they already wereThey people of Southie even the MacDonalds sometimes thought that they had many enemies especially the people of color This problem influenced their perception about the real Southie only because they couldnt grasp the concept the blaming others for their misfortunes was only making their situation worse While the busing was going on the people of south Boston were so reckless and when people with higher authority stepped in they felt betrayed but I was only a kid and the cops would probably catch me and beat me at the beach So I just fantasized about killing them all They were the enemy the giant oppressor like Goliath And all the people of South Boston were like David Except David won in the end and we knew we were going to lose this one 86 The people of South Boston were aware that they werent going to come out on top in this situation but they didnt seem to understand that which in turn cause more problems It was all about loyalty to them Loyalty isnt bad but when its taking over your head and ruining your lifestyle theres a problem and thats where they messed themselves upJames Whitey Bulgers influence on the residents of South Boston drastically corrupting the minds of most people especially the youth The fact that he was such a prominent figure no one dared to step to him therefore they stayed silent Everyone knew who Whitey was he was in charge and that was final He was the king of Southie He had definite rules that
