Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe In Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe theres a man name Okonkwo He is a type of man that fears weakness and failure Okonkwo lives in Umuofia in the village of Iguedo with three wives and eight children in a large compound enclosed by a thick wall of red earth His household points out his wealth and success that is widely known based on his personal achievements When he was younger he was the greatest wrestler in the nine villages Achebe 8 Not only that but he was a wealthy farmer and had two barns full of yams 8 nonetheless deep within himself he fears he should be found to resemble his father13 The contributions of his own anger incidents accidental actions and fear of becoming like his father allows his life to fall apart leading from one thing to another The angry temper Okonkwo contains helps contribute to his life reducing to parts His fiery temper 13 causes his wife to live in fear of him particularly his youngest wife In an incident Okonkwo beats his youngest wife Ojiugo after she did not return early enough to cook the afternoon meal29 during the Week of Peace According to his culture beating somebody during the sacred Week was unheard of Base upon the priest of the earth goddess Ani concludes that he has commits a great evil30 that may have ruins the whole clan 30 There was also an incident where he beats his third wife Ekwefi and nearly shoots her by his own gun Just because she merely cut a few leaves off it to wrap some food 38 from a banana tree Okonkwo thought was dead Apart from his anger there is an accidental incident that contributes to his life
