When I originally read the chapter in the text after hearing the lecture in class I got the impression that parenting styles were clean cut and easily defined Unfortunately like many other terms and theories in psychology patenting style is a fuzzy concept When I found the article and began to read the brief but informative real life experiences of a few very different parents I realized how impossible it is for any parent to fit in a neat little parenting style box LectureText In the text the description of the different parenting styles is described in such a way that one would think that each parent fits one and only one of the parenting styles I remember Professor Daehler in lecture mentioning that parenting styles do vary parents sometimes take on more that one style of parenting and a parents style of parenting can change over time In lecture I believe my understanding of this was a lot more general and naive because I had never took the time to look at and analyze parenting styles until this article The Article This article was very informative but as far as the validity in the information more journal research would need to be done The article was come from the family circle magazine This article gave personal descriptions of parenting styles and showed how different parenting styles interact with one another As I read the articles I tried to categorize the parents based upon their parenting styles I only managed to do this for the first story in the article because of the difficulty of this task I found that the parents shared traits of different parenting styles I also noticed that although they may have shared common goals for their child they both acted out how to achieve these goals very differently The mother seemed to be somewhat absent minded leaving the window open yet she did show caring
