In T S Eliots The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock Eliot shows that J Alfred Prufrock is afraid of being socially shunned by the women because of his aging and lack of ability to communicate efficiently Eliot states Time to turn back and descend the stair With a bald spot in the middle of my hair- They will say How his hair is growing thin667 showing Purfrocks insecurities Prufrock is debating whether or not to leave the party in fear of women mocking his hair loss This goes to shows that Prufrock struggles with his personal appearance and fears the opinions of others Eliot manifests Purfrocks self doubt through Prufrock asking himself and should I then presume And how should I begin668 He is unaware of how to approach women at the party along with catching their interest Fearing he will not be able to gain the womens interest he continues to question himself on how to do so Eliot states For I have known them all already known them all667 This shows that Prufrock feels that many women are the same They dont have much to bring to him except fulfill his sexual desires His attitude is simply ambivalent towards women He takes interest in the womens appearance but feels as if their personalities are all the same Prufrocks fear reveals that women in this poem are seen as objects to win over
