In the beginning it is very clear he falls asleep reading a book then is awaken by a knocking on his door Line 3 has alliteration repeating the n sound Then things are somewhat gothic and dark He begins to miss his wife Lenore thinking of her being in heaven with angels His purple curtains can show richness and death And with the visitor at his door may seem to him as death is coming to take him away He apologizes to the visitor for not going to the door and opening it sooner Yet when he opened the door the only thing he saw was darkness and nothing else Line 26 dreams no mortals ever dream he was thinking of dying and afterlife Stanza 6 is clear by him jut hearing noises of the wind against the window The raven then flies in but he uses the words in stepped Black bird means death Poe sits and talks to the Raven as if the bird holding power over Poe The Raven keeps repeating the word Nevermore as a way of tormenting and driving people crazy As my Hopes have flown before he could be talking about his wife being taken away from him in death Stanza 11 Poe thinks that everything was taken away from this bird and it has nothing left to show for thats why he say Nevermore Poe sits in front of the raven to figure out what is meant by this word of Nevermore He refers to the raven as she making him think it may be the spirit of his wife Perfume starts to come into play like the one Lenore wore Hes begging for drug to take away and be rid of this pain he is suffering from also from the torment of this one Raven Angels name her Lenore is Poe saying that this isnt the actual name of his wife At the end Poe is telling
