Preventing Teen Age Violence In April of 1999 in Littleton Colorado two teenage boys killed students one teacher and injured others What seemed to be an ordinary day at Columbine high school turned into a tragedy that shattered the nation This senseless crime left grieving families friends students and faculty asking why and how As we enter into the new millennium violence among teens is at an all time high Cooperation between families church and educators is critical to effectively thwart this horrifying trend A parent is a childs first educator It is vitally important for them to provide a loving nurturing and positive home life They must try to set a good example and be a good role model for their child Being involved in their childs life such as knowing their friends taking an interest in their activities and hobbies setting rules and regulations and monitoring what is seen on television movies and the computer help a child to grow in a healthy environment Unfortunately this is not always an easy task given many unfortunate circumstances But when a child does not get the attention he needs at home he may look elsewhere This could result in undesirable behavior The standards and morals of our daily lives should exemplify our religious beliefs Again it is the job of the parent to introduce their child to their religion Even as a young child ones faith should be an important part of their lives and develop as they grow Trying to live as God wants us to will hopefully keep one on the right path Educators play a significant role in the development of a child In society today teachers also serve as surrogate parent It is a responsibility for all teachers to help children to reach their highest potential They should nurture their intellectual social and emotional growth Teachers also need to objectively observe and monitor students interaction with their peers
