Whos at fault A Good Man Is Hard To Find A grandmother can either be the glue that holds the family together with her wisdom and patience or the Berlin wall that keeps the family apart In a good man is hard to find the grandmother leads the family to a horrible fate A lie she thought was crafty later yielded an unexpected car accident and an unwanted encounter with an escaped convict named the Misfit The grandmother made bad decisions on the trip ultimately handing the family over to death which leaves only her at fault for the familys termination of existence The cat brought by the grandmother clearly caused the car accident in the story the instant the valise removed the newspaper top she had over the basket under it rose with a snarl and Pitty Sing the cat sprang onto Baileys shoulder which led them to the Misfit who ended their lives She was selfish in her choice to bring the cat Bailey clearly did not want to bring it on the trip with them her son Bailey didnt like to arrive at a motel with a cat but she thought it would not survive on its own Bailey could have been a man and told his mother not to bring the cat and yes that would have spared their lives on their trip But given the extent of her nagging behavior Im sure he did not want to hear her all the way to Florida Cmon she nagged from the beginning of the story and she would not shut up Baileys choice to remain quiet on bringing the cat was for his own piece of mind Im sure this is how he has taken care of other situations in his life that involved the grandmothers needs The grandmothers selfishness coupled with a little lie clearly drove the family to the arms of the Misfit This line The grandmother did
