Shakespeares Hamlet is probably the most quoted and debated play of all time To be or not to be that indeed is the question that has been asked over and over and debated for generations Hamlet is essentially a revenge tragedy where the hero Hamlet battles for answers to find out if Claudius really did murder his father and how shall he deal with this Because Hamlet is not 100 sure if Claudius is the murderer and has speculated that the ghost of his father may be the devil playing with his mind he cannot act in his rash rage Hamlet takes his time like an experienced chess player attempting to learn his opponents moves and calculate the next few Throughout the play Hamlet tries to find out the truth and ultimately make his move Interestingly enough Hamlet contains 2 revenge tragedies Aside from the main story a similar tale unfolds During Hamlets madness he throws himself on an eavesdropper within his mothers curtains thinking its Claudius killing him instantly with his dagger Unfortunately it was Polonius Laertes father This unfolds into yet another plot for revenge this time by Laertes against Hamlet However Laertes job is easier he doesnt have to contemplate who the murderer is or what his true intentions were Laertes is blinded by this rage and knows of Hamlets sins He wastes no time with asking questions and immediately cahoots with Claudius to murder Hamlet Shakespeare almost intentionally puts in the second plot to contrast the different methods So while the reader is contemplating about Hamlets tactics the reader is also entertained by a complete opposite approach This all adds to the tragedy of the ending striking all emotions at
