The Storming of the Bastille in France has been regarded as one of the most important dates in the history of France enough to merit it the national holiday of the country Although regarded with symbolic historical importance the viewpoint of those included in the storming of the Bastille and some outsiders has varied greatly For example the account of M Keversan a patriot lawyer who participated in the storming of the Bastille is quite different than the account of Charles Dickens in A Tale of Two Cities a historical novel written seventy years after the Bastille had been stormed While M Keversans account seemed to glorify the means of the people that of Dickens more looked down upon it and made the people involved seem cold and cruel Although neither is completely unbiased through the accounts regarding July 14 1789 one can see the different viewpoints concerning the means and methods of the revolutionaries in France M Keversan was a patriot lawyer working for the cause of the revolution Therefore it is not difficult to believe that in his account of the storming of the Bastille the actions of the people would seem to be almost glorified in some ways as he and many others believed that A symbol of royal tyranny was destroyed by the will and power of the people In his account Keversan repeatedly speaks of the bravery of the people that revolted saying that Veteran armies inured to war have never performed greater prodigies of valor than this leaderless multitude of persons belonging to every classill-equipped and unused to arms boldly affronted the fire from the ramparts and seemed to mock the thunderbolts the enemy hurled at them-this is one of many quotes in which Keversan shows his obvious choice of who is the victim and the winner In his account the killing of others is justified as in a way necessary for the evil to be stopped However there
