AMERICAN REVOLUTION The American Revolution was a huge movement in our history that not only a huge political change but also a difference in the economic and social changes of America at the time Although there were negative sides politically economically and socially the positive factors seemed to way out the negatives which is seen in our past as young America was able to overcome these negative factors and become a powerful nation Obviously with the Revolution over America was in need of a type of government to run their new country At first they adopted the Articles of Confederation which they later decided would not allow their country to move forward in a positive direction So political leaders got together and decided to and they later wrote up a Constitution When the new Constitution was ratified it brought about many new changes from the old Articles of Confederation which brought a big difference in way the power was distributed throughout the nation Some states such as Rhode Island and North Carolina who were the last ones to ratify the Constitution because it took more power away from the states The Constitution shifted power heavily away from the states to a national government Before this the colonies acted almost as 13 individual countries under there own rule This new national government now had a three headed monster which consisted of an executive judicial and legislative branches with a system of checks and balances to help maintain a balance of power through out the government This changed from the Articles of Confederation which was based solely on the legislative branch of the government This was made to speed up decisions that were needed to be made in government which in the old process toke long periods of time to go through and have a decision reached States were also willing to give up their land claims to the west which proved to be a big
