Lord Acton once said power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely This quote means that when a person has power they end up going mad and greedy and when you have absolute power you have total control which can turn you into a whole different person This quote relates to the book Animal Farm by George Orwell using the literary element characterization because of the changes with Napoleon The book Animal Farm relates to the quote power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely because of Napoleon and how he acts When Napoleon was in charge he went mad with power because once he was in power he felt like he could he was in power he felt like he could do whatever he wanted to Napoleon acted as if he had no need to answer to anyone Napoleon was always altering the 7 commandments One commandment he changed was No Animal shall be killed by another animal it was changed to No Animal shall be killed by another animal without cause He changed that rule because he accused a few animals of working with snowball under cover so he murdered them Another commandment he broke was that No Animal shall drink alcohol he changed it because he started to drink behind the other animals backs All this shows that because he was in charge he felt he could do whatever he wanted Also how he treated the other animals really unfair shows how he became corrupted with absolute powerCharacterization is used in Animal Farm to characterize Napoleons actions in the story Napoleon was characterized as a mean ruthless uncaring pig who only thought about himself and then other pigs Napoleon doesnt make the pigs do any work and feeds them with a lot of food while he makes all the other animals work harder and eat very little By doing this he broke another commandment which was that All animals are equal but ends up
