ADD Attention Deficit Disorder Or Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder ADHD Attention Deficit Disorder or ADD is a disorder that effects thousands of Americians everyday of their lives This disorder hits home for me because my friend Mike that I attended grade school with was diagnosed with ADD in first grade He was left back to repeat the grade and then the school began screening him for this disorder In most cases of attention deficit disorder the individual will show signs of ADD in early childhood ADD is identified by chronic behaviors usually lasting at least six months and not before seven years of age There are four sub types have been established they are as follows 1 ADHD - Inattentive type is defined by an person experiencing at least six of the following characteristics a Fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes b Difficulty sustain attention c Does not appear to listen d Easily distracted e Forgetful in daily activities f Struggles to follow instruction 2 ADHD - Hyperactiveimpulsive type is defined by an individual experiencing six of the following types a Fidgets with hands and feet or squirms in seat b Difficulty in turn taking situations c Acts as if driven by a motor d Blurts out answers before questions have been completed e Runs about or climbs excessively f Difficulty engaging in activities quietly 3 ADHD - Combined type is defined by an individual meeting both sets of attention and hyperactiveimpulsive criteria 4 ADHD - Not otherwise specified is defined by an individual who demonstrates some characteristics but an insufficient number of symptoms to reach a full diagnosis These symptoms however disrupt everyday life This information above was derived from CHADDChildren and Adults with Attention-DeficitHyperactivity Disorder The cause of ADHD has been traced back to genetics and possibilities of abnormal fetal development This affects the area of
