1 I read the book The Catcher in the Rye The catcher in the rye was a book that was written by JD Salinger in the 1940s The book is 26 chapters and 214 pages long 2 I had no real reason for choosing the catcher in the rye It was referred to me by a friend that had previously read the book 3 The book begins around 1950 at a Pencey Prep football game Pencey Prep was a private school for boys in Agerstown Pennsylvania After the game Holden Caulfield prepares to leave Pennsylvania to go to Manhattan New York 4 a The main character of the catcher in the rye is Holden Caulfield a 17 year old boy that has just dropped out of his 3rd school Holden is a little scrawny but really tall b I think that Holden Caulfield is the main character because he is the person that tells the story The story is all about what happened to Holden after his stay at Pencey Prep along with the events that led up to that point He tells about many people during the book but the plot of the story revolves around Holden going crazy and his search to get help c Love - Holden tells about a girl named Jane Gallagher Holden loved Jane partly because she was innocent like a child Later in the book Ward Stradlater Holdens Roommate has a date with Jane This makes Holden very mad and results in a fight Responsibility - Holden feels responsible for phoebe his little sister he doesnt want her to grow up and tries to prevent it from happening but later realizes that growing up must happen nothing can be done to stop it Unselfishness - Holden is unselfish because he tries to help anyone
