In the book The Catcher In The Rye written by JD Salinger Holden is confused because he cannot find what he is looking for Holden believes growing up means letting go of his idealism and learning to accept the harsh realities of life death and the loss of innocence IAccepting lifes harsh reality and loss of innocence AHolden first realizes the changes he is going through when he talks to Mr Antolini at his house 1Mr Antolini tells Holden he is headed for a fall that he wont be able to stop and explains to him that he will end up going through terrible events if he is unable to stop him self Because Holden is constantly pretending to do something or be someone that he isnt always having it involve himself dying or being severely wounded which according to Mr Antolini is a sign of immaturity and seems as though he is trying to tell Holden it is time that he takes him self away from these things aThe mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause while the mark of a mature man is he wants to live humbly for one pg190 BHolden sees the fuck you written on the walls and begins to realize that he cant keep people from growing up and changing and he is unable to protect them from all the things that he views as bad in the world 1Holden first sees the fuck you on the wall next to the entrance of the school that Phoebe goes to and it bothers him because at this time because he is beginning to realize that he cant always protect Phoebe from everything and he doesnt want to believe it to be true so he rubs it off of the wall Then as Holden leaves the school after giving the letter to the woman at the desk he sees another fuck you
