Ideas only become powerful tools in history once they are transformed into actions With action come consequences whether they are good or bad The interaction between actions and consequences gently mold the society we have today However we must always consider that the present ideas beliefs and philosophies are the ones which push us into performing those actions Therefore ideas are really the ones which drive us into doing something The film Quills explores the life of Marquis de Sade during his imprisonment in the Cheraton Asylum I believe that it was Marquis de Sades ideas that drove the people of asylum to think he was insane His idea of fiction was totally different from that of Coulmiers As opposed to fiction dealing with love and endurance Sade saw fiction in a different angle He focused on what he called the eternal truths that bind together all man kind which included those offensive for some issues such as fucking for pleasure His urge his need his desire to write became the initial push for him to share his ideas He was also indirectly backed up by Coulmier who saw his writing as a process of recovery a purgative for the toxins in his mind Madeline too provided underground support for Sade by being the venue for which his provocative compositions may reach the external world Combining his outrageous ideas his inclination to writing and an indirect assistance from the asylum he became the focal point at which the series of actions and consequences that ran through the entire film started The publication of Justine in 1791 was seen as enlightenment a form of liberation by Sade However he didnt expect that there would be an extreme reaction coming from Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte In an effort to end the Marquis de Sades pornography the emperor sent Dr Royer-Collard to curestop Sade with more drastic means The attempts of repressing Sade to write and the manners Sade
