The Grapes of Wrath By Matt Nixon The Grapes of Wrath was written by John Steinbeck in 1939 It was a historical fiction that took place during the Dust Bowl and chronicled one familys courageous journey in search of a better life The Family that the novel followed was the Joad family Tom Joad Jr was the eldest son who was just released from prison on probation for homicide when the Joads embarked on there journey The mom of the family as the story progressed replaced the dads leading role One of her main objectives in life was to prevent the family from breaking apart The family had two other sons two daughters two grandparents a reveren and later another family would join them The conflict the Joads faced was going to California and once again resume a nice life The story started with the Joads and many other families farms being foreclosed on them leaving them all with no home The Joads having no other choice had to find a new home and with seeing handbills saying there was plenty of good paying work in California they set off One night as the Joads where traveling they camped with another family along the road that night Grandpa died The next morning the Joads began traveling with the family they had camped with When the Joads where about to enter California the family they had been traveling with could no longer go along with them The night the Joads where entering California as they where driving Grandma died further breaking the family apart When the Joads entered the land of milk and honey they where faced with many hardships including rampant discrimination against migrant families The Joads dream of a good life was far from a reality in California A question you should ask yourself would be that if you where the Joads could you make the trip to California John Steinbeck
