Gatsby believed in the green in the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us Fitzgerald 180 In the novel The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald Jay Gatsby develops and transforms from the rumors spread about him to Nicks thoughts that pertain to him Introduced early into the book was the theme of not believing everything you hear Fitzgerald 19 because that is what fuels the town New to West Egg Nick acquires the house right next to the most mysterious talked-about man in town While many people think they know the story of Gatsbys past life the truth behind it is unknown to everyone except himself His reasoning for inventing a new persona was for love love that he gave and couldnt receive back Jay Gatsby is a nave dreamer looking for what he has longed for the love of Daisy Buchannan Jay Gatsby hosts frequent extravagant parties for one specific reason Daisy His parties which occur at least once a fortnight Fitzgerald 40 are thrown with the intention to impress others by containing glistening hors-doeuvres Fitzgerald 40 and filled buffet tables that could feed the homeless The large amounts of food ordered decorations set up and countless parties he has thrown shows that Jay Gatsby does not just have money but he has riches to waste Gatsby easily throws around his wealth in order to stand out in the crowd hopefully to catch a certain someones eye Across the bay from his mansion lives Daisy Buchannan the now married woman Jay Gatsby had fallen in love with years before and could never get past forgetting Each night Gatsby stretches out his arms toward the dark water Fitzgerald 20 and only a single green light Fitzgerald 21 is distinguished off in the distance Later the distant gleam is recognized as a light shone from the Buchannans dock which symbolizes Gatsbys hope of rekindling the fire he and Daisy had once shared Naivety
