In the dramatic story of To Kill a Mockingbird a novel by Harper Lee there are significant themes through out the novel such as injustice isolation courage racism and disparity The author shows theme in a literary works of an idea Just flipping through the very first chapters readers can see a dynamic change in theme The characters Jem and Dill play the largest roll in the story they follow the theme of lose of innocence As William Butler Yeats would say The innocent and the beautiful have no enemy but time Later in the chapter evidence of lose of evidence appears Atticus smiled Your getting so big now Ill just have to hold a part of you pg 238 This quote shows that they are getting older As they both get older the things they used to be able to get away with they cannot anymore because they arent babies anymore This theme happens throughout the book Your mighty too big to be rocked Said Atticus pg 120 This other quote is also saying that they are getting to old for being rocked in a chair This quote also states how they are getting to big and heavy for those types of childish things As the novel goes on Atticus and Calpernia the African American house maid realize that they cannot baby Jem and Dill anymore because they are simply to old for it They are trying to show them that they cannot be little babies anymore Although they are children Atticus and Calpernia want them to start because it is a life lesson that they should know and keep with them
