Bridget's feedback:
"You tackle a number of heady questions and concepts, and using the film as an artifact for the discussion helps ground the essay for the reader. I question the frequent use of interrogatives, as they have a tendency to disrupt the discussion, and suggest shifting some of the sentences out of that mode or streamlining the usage for more efficient presentation (for example, rather than three in a row, revise down to a punchier single question).
This piece takes an essayistic approach, and as such, some wandering makes sense as you explore the various nooks and crannies of the concepts. Make sure, however, that organization and structure remains purposeful. To use the introductory paragraph as an example, the film's title is not provided until the last sentence; if this is foremost a film analysis (i.e., per the prompt's demands), let the reader know earlier by introducing the film in the opening sentences.
While reading, I spot frequent errors or awkward diction or phrasing that can get in the way of the reader's understanding. A thorough proofread to catch those issues, as well as some targeted revision will ensure readability and the reader's focus. Some stylistic edits I would suggest include introducing Neo as "Neo, the movie's protagonist, receives..." and a similar revision away from parentheticals in introducing other characters. As a final comment, do make sure to italicize the film's title."
