Black Rain The movie Black Rain discusses many important details about how the Japanese society works This 1988 movie was about a family who lived in Hiroshima during the time of the bombing It showed how the radiation sickness that came from the bombing affected the Japanese people It specifically mentioned the Japanese community during that time the involvement of the Japanese government the Japanese culture and history and it painted a humanistic portrait of the Japanese people Black Rain was a touching story about a young girl named Yasuko Shizuma her uncle Mr Shizuma and her aunt Shigeko Shizuma In 1945 this family was living in Hiroshima when it was hit by an atomic bomb The niece Yasuko and her aunt Shigeko were both effected by this atomic blast and suffered radiation effects because of it The aunt was the first family member to be struck by the radiation sickness so the family moved to the grandmothers house when they found out about her illness During the movie there were many times that the family would remember the catastrophe and relive the horrific details of that day back in 1945 This movie took the audience through the feelings and the emotions of the families that were affected by the bombing It portrayed the after effects of the bombing in a very graphic and detailed manner Throughout the story Yasuko hid her illness from everyone even the audience until some of the last scenes of the movie I believe that the director did this in order to show how the Japanese society during that time period worked There were many types of communities portrayed throughout the movie The first community that I saw was one that did not really stick together Throughout the story the uncle was trying to marry off his niece He wanted her to get married because that was the next step in
