THE ADJUNCT In the poem The Adjunct writer Howard Pflanzer is describing the life of the adjuncts part time professors in Universities and colleges The meaning of the poem is to show people about the lives of adjuncts Its obvious from the poem that the writer is an adjunct himself and he writes about his own life and his students In the beginning of the poem you can find the words On the run from class to class from place to place I have no office a shared desk a small drawer piled high with papers short conferences on the run You can see from these words that the writer is very unhappy about the situation adjuncts are in He is very supportive of his students and encourages them to learn The setting of the poem is Dull and upsetting I can see from the poem that the author is not happy in his position and his social status is uncertain He doesnt like the conditions he is in but he will keep doing what he does because he feels that its the right thing to do and it will do well for a lot of people After going to the Adjunct hearing I learned that the situation the Adjuncts are in is really a serious matter Just like the author expresses in a poem they dont get benefits that full time professors get I have no office A shared desk A small drawer Piled high with papers Short Conferences On the run These lines support my opinion about the life of an Adjunct I think the mood of the poem is sad but also hopeful the author hopes that someone would hear his words and change the world he lives in I think you can really see the mood of the poem by reading it a couple of times over You can feel the sadness and pride in authors words and
