The attempt of President Franklin D Roosevelt to bring the nation out of the depression The New Deal was a number of policies that for the most part did not fully accomplish the desired goals Their failure was due mostly to poor execution and thinking behind the policies It should not however be looked at as a complete failure because there were several advances and accomplishments that occurred Despite the New Deals failure to satisfy the goals set for it several pieces of legislation passed set precedents that still exist in America President Roosevelt had preached for change to solve the problem of the Great Depression since he first ran for president While Hoover was waiting for the business cycle to solve the problems of America Roosevelt thought otherwise and told the American people while running I pledge you I pledge myself to a new deal for the American people Roosevelt believed that moving away from the Great Depression It was necessary to provide the nation with relief recovery and reform All three factors were dependent on each other and if relief the first step was not completely successful then the others would fail also The first thing that had to be done was to put money in the hands of the people Hopefully if the people were receiving more money the amount they would spend would also increase This money flowing into the economy would then jump start it back into prosperity Finally changes would be made by the government to prevent the actual depression and also the events leading up to the depression While several groups were greatly aided by legislation of the New Deal not enough was done to lift up the entire nation The Agricultural Adjustment Act was initiated to assist the farmers one of the groups hardest hit by the depression While all aspects of the economy were declining agriculture had declined that farmers purchasing power was only
