Reefer Madness It has always been a controversial but popular topicThe continuing illegality of marijuana is based more on political than scientific considerations Although during the 1970s the government supported exploration into marijuanas therapeutic potential its role has become one of blocking new research and opposing any change in marijuanas legal status Over the past couple of decades numerous independent researches have been conducted by the scientific community to finally find out all the facts about this herb Even though marijuana goes back as far as 5000 years of recorded use some things about it were still unknown For example we still didnt know how it produces the High that it has how it affects the brain and is it harmful or not Those researches have given us never before known facts about marijuana and its effect on humans The findings seem to have given a boost to the never-ending battle to legalize marijuana Seemingly the facts from these researches have made the position of the supporters of legalization including myself even stronger Most of the common myths associated with marijuana have been proven wrong and the benefits of medicinal marijuana are pretty much undisputable So why doesnt the Government legalize it How can they say no when some of the most dangerous and most addictive drugs alcohol tobacco out there are legal and are staring in your face from the store shelves The Government says that legalization will lead to drastic increase in use and overall prove to be a disaster But Amsterdam example should demonstrate that legalization does not lead to chaos In fact legalization will probably be extremely favorable for the Government and our society In Amsterdam for example the use of hard drugs went down drastically since legalization due to separation of soft and hard drug markets And after a predicted rise
