Response to Evangelium Vitae First let me start by saying that I am not stating that I either agree or disagree with the practice of abortion I do however have a response to this proclamation of sorts from Pope John Paul II I really only have a problem with one fundamental part of his letter The part that I do not agree with is as follows procured abortion is the deliberate and direct killing by whatever means it is carried out of a human being in the initial phase of his or her existence extending from conception to birth I guess the reason that I have problem with this part of the Popes letter is because I do not believe that in the initial stages of so called existence that the fetus is a human being The reason that I say this is that if at this stage of life the fetus is already a human being than almost every animal on this planet is a human being The reason for this being that at the fetal stages of life for most animals there is nothing that distinguishes a human infant from a primate feline canine avian or most any other animal infant for that matter Now whether its right to kill any of so called Gods creatures I am not addressing here but I do not think that through abortion that you are killing a human being I dont think that at this point of life the infant is a human being but rather just another one of Gods creatures I think that the reason that the church has such a problem with abortion is because it shows that man is an equal of God By that I mean that just as God can create life and then destroy it at will abortion shows that man just as God can have the same power So just as we have the story of how
