Self-Confidence in Football Confidence plays a key role in football One must have confidence to not be intimidated If a player lacks confidence or is unsure of himself then he will hesitate when it is his time to make the play If a player hesitates at a key point in a play it will result in failure for that player There are two kinds of confidence a player can have The first kind is called trait confidence Trait confidence is the belief a player has that he will be successful in the game before he even steps on the field He thinks that the only person who can hold him back is himself The second type of confidence is state confidence State confidence is when a player knows that he has the ability to make a tackle right before it happens This type of confidence can change from situation to situation whereas trait confidence usually stays the same There are two reasons why players gain confidence in football One reason is that they have a knowledge of the competition Usually this means that they see the competitions strengths and flaws When a player knows about his opponent then he knows what to expect and will not be surprised The second reason is that the players acquire knowledge and skills which directly affects their ability to play the game A player is more confident to make a tackle in a game after he has practiced the same tasks in practice over and over again In Foundations of Sport and Exercise Psychology it states that when you feel confident you are more likely to remain calm and relaxed under pressure This state of mind and body allows you to be aggressive and assertive when the outcome of competition lays in the balance This is talking about the zone that every great football player gets to perform well Ask
