The First Crusade was a long campaign to gain the control of the city ofJerusalem It took place during the boiling heat of the summer and thebone chilling weather of the winter of 1097 The Christian Crusaderswanted control of Jerusalem but on their way the Crusaders had to takecontrol of Muslim controlled Antioch in 1098 As Fulcher of Chartreskept implementing God was in control and the Christians had toovercome hardships and a relationship with God to gain power When the Crusaders reached Antioch Fulcher of Chartres started hischronicle in 1098 and recorded details from the attack on AntiochFulchers Chronicle tells the story of how hard the Siege of Antioch wasand that God would prevail in the end During the siege of Antioch foodwas hard to locate and shelter was extinct The famished ate the shootsof bean seeds growing in the fields and many kinds of herbs unseasonedsalt also thistles which being not well cooked because of thedeficiency of firewood pricked the tongues of those eating them alsohorses asses and camels and dogs and rats Throughout the stormsand weather the Crusaders had to rely only on the shelter from thecoverage of the night sky Fulcher believe that God would keep his wordand could destroy the Turks whenever he wanted to God allowed the Turksto destroy everything of Gods God also allowed the Turks to killChristians because the Christians were saved by the grace of GodThoughout the Turks domination of Christians some Turks wanted thesalvation of God and were baptized by Christian priests Many men leftthe Siege of Antioch due to a lack of food money and shelters Eventhe most noble men left the Siege of Antioch The Count of Blois left byship to return home to France and the Christians took control ofAntioch If the Count of Blois would have stayed then he would havebeen considered a great leader but God had other plans God prevailed once again for the Christians He was extremely happybecause
