What came first the chicken or the egg In the same sense what came first the word or conscious thought The word seems to be a very important motif in creation myths along with conscious thought These seem to go together like the chicken and the egg which came first Then from the thought and the word comes form and reality In the forth gospel in the Christian new testament written by John the word is all important He writes that in the beginning there was only the word and the word was God It seems that he is saying that with speech God brought everything into being It gives all power to the thoughts and words of God only In the Indian Brhadaranyaka Upanishad there was nothingness until the word The Purusa was all then he spoke He said I am and the word was born He was suddenly alone The word seemed to bring awareness of one being alone The word brought about form which gave way to consciousness In the Mesopotamian Enuma elish nothing comes into being without being called upon by name In this creation myth the hierarchy of the gods exists before the word or names Then the gods called forth by name the rest of the gods and creation With names they had destinies In this creation myth the thought of the high gods brings upon the word which develops the form of creation My views Thoughts are things brought about by the spoken word I realize that I could have this totally backwards and it could be form that brings thought into word There are many possibilities though we cannot be sure which is the proper directional flow we cannot deny the importance of these three things thought the word and the form Most like the holy trinity found in multiple religions I think that the word is so very important in creation because even
