When I first heard Thoreaus claim That government is best which governs least I had to listen to it several times in order to fully comprehend what he meant I believe that he meant that the best thing a government can do is let the people decide how to run their own society to a certain extent of course and I agree with his statement I for one am cautious of the government Maybe Im just being paranoid but I think they have way too much power over the nation for their own good I propose that the government should be split into fifty smaller sections Personally I believe that the people themselves appreciate a government which allows them to make their own decisions I think that the way to accomplish this is by giving more power to each separate state The state government would then be able to provide specific needs for the people that live there Of coarse there should be certain laws that every state has to fallow such as crime laws murder laws rape laws Etc Yet apart from that each state government would be able to decide where money is going to be spent and also the people would have more power to decide on how things should be run in there state In my eyes its like a parent raising a child Theyll narrow down the decisions for their children but still allow room for the child to make their own decision I think that the governments main priority should be the protection and safekeeping of the people But if they dont allow the people to decide on the methods with which theyll be protected society in general could be put in a dangerous situation because of the government For example the newly elected president George W Bush seems to want a lot of money to be spent on national security The Army The Navy
