The Libertarian Party The Libertarian Party is the third largest political party in the United States today Yet the Libertarian National Committee consists of only eighteen board members The four elected by the Convention are the chair the vice chair a secretary and a treasurer Five members are elected at large and geographic regions select nine The responsibilities of this committee are to establish a party to carry out its functions approve a budget and give advice to the chair on decisions he must make They meet about three to four times a year This party was formed in 1971 with vision of recreating a world where people are free to follow their own dreams in their own ways a world of peace harmony opportunity and abundance Some of their beliefs include people should be able to offer their goods and services peacefully without interference from the government that the American government should protect its own and not use our tax money to support other countries As a matter of a fact they believe that taxes should be abolished altogether Sounds like a great idea to me but would it really work Libertarians seem to think it would Their belief is that the governmental agencies regulating taxes are who is getting all the money anyway and that to do away with so many agencies would do away with the need for taxes They say that government at all levels is too expensive inefficient arrogant and downright dangerous In some ways I can really agree here Maybe less government would be better and the extreme amount of taxes we pay may just be what gives them so much power This party challenges the state and defends the right of individuals Their motto seems to be live and let live Through the belief that all people should have sole dominion over
