A very prevalent topic these days whether in the workplace or at a college is affirmative action Many people are Pro-affirmative action and many are against Ifor one am against it I believe that affirmative action creates a lower standard to those of minority groups and encourages them to think they deserve what they have not earned I also think affirmative actions takes away from those white males who have worked twice as hard and will not receive such due rewards Affirmative action is a quota system set up to make equal opportunities for all minorities Therefor one of every 5 med students at said university must be of minority group Seems fair at first glance the universities just want diversity correct Well that could be true until you look at a situation such as this For instance there is a white male well call him Bill He grew up in the slums of Detroit and was raised only by his mother who worked two jobs and had no time to help him with school work Well Bill rose above and ended up wanting to become a lawyer So he studied hard got a 36 GPA and did very well on his LSATs Soon Bill began applying to various law schools Across the state a young black male who well call James is well known by the community of which his father is the mayor He is applying for law schools as well however his GPA in college was only a 32 Well the admissions council at University of Michigans law school is working round the clock compiling the best of students to begin their fall semester As the get down the bottom of the barrel and only have two slots left they realize they are yet to meet their quota established by affirmative action and that both student to fill those slots must be minorities So although Bill is much more qualified with a
