The legalization of marijuana is a very controversial issue Contrary to popular belief there are many positive results that can come from allolwing citizens to use this drug freely Some cancer patients have been prescribed a drug called Maninol a synthetic form of THC which is one of marijuana active ingredients This drug alleviates the patients pain rises their spirits induces their appetite and allows them to sleep The FDA and the DEA has already approved this drug as a legal form of medication but in some areas it is still unaccepted as a legal form of medication The Bush Administation targeted marijuana which hasnt even been the sole cause of deaths among its many users During this time they over looked the estimated 300000 deaths per year from tobacco and another 10000 from alcohol The government Dosent realize that a crackdown on marijuana leads to the use of harsher drugs such as cocaine which are easier to conceal Back in the days of the prohibition alcohol was considerd the forbidden fruit It created black markets organized crime and the desire to break the rules Tjis can be related to the situation today with marijuana If it were leaglized and not so risky there would be especially rebel teenagers would loose intrest Not only will afflicted people benefit from the legalization of marajuana but the government will earn money because of the tax placed on the narcotic as it does with cigarettes and cigars The government has a lot of leeway when it comes to deciding the rules of people They say what we can and cannot do But they only possess the right to regulate commerce not prohibit it They can set the drinking or smoking age enforce laws so adults dont drive driunk etc but they can not use these things why should marijuana be any different If were not slaves to the governmentor those who control the governtment then we have
