To move this paper into the next draft, I urge you to incorporate evidence into the text in a clear, obvious way for your reader. This helps them see the type of sources you've consulted, allowing them to assess credibility and you to build ethos and authority. Similarly, referencing real-world examples, in addition to the extreme case of Heaven's Gate, can help portray the landscape of this issue more precisely for your reader.

Related to higher-order elements like argumentation and logic, I think the paper could do more work up front to define purpose and working definitions. Because "cult" is such a contested, changing term and concept, let your reader know which definition you will use (you outline some of it at the end of the first body paragraph) and where that definition comes from (religious studies? the FBI/legal perspective? sociology?), which will help the reader understand your approach."
