Why was Caesar assassinated in 44BC Gaius Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC for many reasons Many people especially his opponents had feared his power and dominion in Rome He was very ambitious from the very start he had achieved many and proved himself to be a great military leader other members of the Roman government felt jealous of his power When he declared himself as dictator for life he threatened the careers of the ones on lower rank Julius Ceasar was a very powerful man in Rome he declared himself as Dictator for life this made him a king in all but name At that time Rome was a Republic and the republicans hated the thought of having an empire it enfuriated some and frightened others The founding of Rome traced back to the overthrow of the Etruscan kings the republicans hated having kings which Julius Caesar had the power ofthey could not let Caesar have the chance to become an emperor In his youth Julius Caesar has achieved a lot He was very ambitious and over-confident in a short amount of time he had conquered Gaul and defeated his enemy Pompey and made himself a Dictator From looking at his past it seems very possible that he might go even further to establish an empire as him as Emperor and Caesarion his heir Because of this many Romans felt threatened and wanted him dead Caesar did many things to earn the support of the roman citizens and to gain popularity with them He built circuses to entertain the people grated citizenship and helped the unemplyed By doing this the people liked him and thus he had even greater power To the eyes of his enemies and competitors this was very desirable many of them became jealous of him They wanted what he has and the first step to achieving this is to kill him Although many people liked Caesar there
