Lake Cumberland Kentucky The tenth place we visited on our quest to find the right one The right one Why yes by one I mean our new houseboatShe was a fixer upper a teal and white 2000 Gibson 44 Standard with grimy seat covers broken faucets and stained carpets but she was ours That new addition to our family happened to impact me more than anyone would have thought in ways that are a mystery and a tribute to a convenient outcome of unfortunate mishapsShe traveled 500 miles to reach her new home Greers Ferry Lake Arkansas Intended to dock in Lacys Marina she was greeted by the down-turned mouths of staff members laden with the news of incorrect measurements She just couldnt fit This led to a new path for our bedraggled beauty Eden Isle Marina Arriving in the second option the stall she intended to occupy was pronounced taken another mistake by marina staff The staffs solution was to grant her with a temporary stall This turmoil led her to rest in dock SS slip 08 At the time I was unaware of the impact these follies would have on every aspect of my beingScrub scrub scrubThe first weekend that she dozed in the dock scrub was the only thought invading my consciousness Four hours spent on cleaning ONE seat cushion as you can see this restoration was a formidable journey It was the Fourth of July weekend and from my perch cleaning along her outer faade I watched the fireworks and longed to abscond the dock for the open water I sacrificed my desire for the well-being of the boat As I continued to scour the deck I watched as one by one four intimidating houseboats filed into the slips around us I could feel our boat quiver and shake in fear or maybe it was from
